About DAMOISEAU

Although the Damoiseau family settled in Guadeloupe in 1815, it was not until 1942 that they became involved in the Rhum Agricole industry. Indeed, that year, Roger Damoiseau bought the Bellevue estate, which was then abandoned, at the cost of heavy debt. In 1968, his son succeeded him and developed the company through the sale of bulk rum, which allowed him to repay the company's debt. In 1995, Hervé Damoiseau took over the distillery and became its president with his brother, Jean-Luc Damoiseau, who is the master distiller.

At the same time, new storage areas and a winery were built. The distillery is also replacing its old Creole column still and installing 3 new ones. column stills themselves modified to obtain a lighter and purer distillate.

The Damoiseau distillery mainly sources its supplies from planters in Grande Terre, even if it grows its own sugar cane. It is also the only one to work with limestone soil which produces even sweeter sugar cane, where the volcanic terroir of Basse Terre is more humid. The main cane used by the Damoiseau distillery is white cane (B.80.689) whose fermentation lasts between 24 and 36 hours. From the 3 stainless steel distillation columns, a light rum with an alcohol content of between 80 and 88% flows.

The distilled rum is then sent into stainless steel vats to benefit from a reduction for 90 days. Following this, part of this rum will be bottled white. Another part will be put in oak barrels to become gold rum. Finally, the last part of the rum will be placed in 180 liter ex-bourbon barrels, for prolonged aging. The barreling is done after a reduction which brings the rum to around 60-70% alcohol. With 3000 aging barrels, the Damoiseau distillery has the largest stock in Guadeloupe.
