Salvador

While sugar cane is among the country's main cultivated crops, Salvador does not have a tradition in rum production. Indeed, successive dictatorships since the 1930s, and then the civil war (1980-1992) have not favoured its development. Although many distilleries existed in the past, they have unfortunately been dismantled. In 2004, in one of the largest sugar producing factory in the country, a distillery was created (Licorera Cihuatan) and launched in 2016 the very first old rum of the brand "Cihuatan". Recently, some independent bottlers have been selecting some rums from this distillery.
