Guadeloupe et Marie-Galante

This French island part of the French overseas, formerly named Karukera - the island with beautiful waters - was taken from Spain by France in the 17th century, then in a few decades became a sugar land that remained in the shadow of its neighbour, Martinique. Benefiting since 2015 from a protected geographical indication (IG), the island of Guadeloupe has seven distilleries in operation, among which we can cite the excellent rums produced at the Longueteau distillery.  Very close to Guadeloupe lies Marie-Galante (The Island of 100 mills) which has four distilleries, including the Poisson distillery, which produces the famous Rhum Père Labat.
