About TROIS RIVIÈRES

Born more than 3 centuries ago in 1660, the Trois Rivières plantation is an integral part of the historical heritage of Martinique. Its emblematic name comes from the 3 rivers bordering its sugar cane fields: Oman, Bois d’Inde and Saint Pierre. First specializing in sugar production in the 18th and 19th centuries, the property gradually devoted itself to the production of Rhum Agricole, which became exclusive at the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1660, Nicolas Fouquet was the Superintendent of Finances of Louis XIV. Thanks to his hierarchical position, he appropriated the largest concession ever awarded to the French West Indies. No less than 2000 hectares located in the south of Martinique! The foundations of what the Trois Rivières plantations will become have been laid. But power will rise to the head of the Superintendent, who secretly planned to found a viceroyalty and he will fall into disgrace before realizing his dream.

Until 1770, the estate changed owners several times. Sugar cultivation was in full swing in the Caribbean and the property hosted up to 3 sugar mills on its land.

In 1785, the Trois Rivières plantations were bought by a powerful owner from the north of Martinique, Etienne Isaïe Marraud Des Grottes. A man of his time, he decided to use the molasses from the sugar production of the Trois Rivières estate and had a distillery built.

But like everywhere in the Caribbean, the 19th century and its numerous sugar crises dealt the final blow to many sugar habitations. The Trois Rivières plantations are unfortunately no exception. In 1905, Amédée Aubéry, industrialist and landowner, purchased the estate. He modernized the site, put an end to sugar production and devoted himself solely to the production of molasses rum.

In 1940, Trois Rivières entered a new era. Amédée Aubéry's son expanded the plantation and transferred the Dizac distillery located in Le Diamant on the land of Trois Rivières. The rum produced by the home is then no longer made from molasses but from pure cane juice: the Trois Rivières Agricole Rhum is born! 56 years later, on November 4, 1996, Trois Rivières obtained the Martinique's Rhum Agricole AOC !

In 2004, the production of Trois Rivières was moved from Sainte Luce to Rivière Pilote, its precious original distilling column was reassembled on the new site, guaranteeing their quality and uniqueness to the rums with the turquoise label. The plantation and its precious sugar cane fields still remain today located in their place of origin, in Sainte Luce, overlooked by the famous mill, and bordered by the Caribbean Sea.
