From 1884 Martinique's sugar industry was in crisis. Félicien Madkaud decides to buy a sugar factory to convert it into a Rhum Agricole distillery. Madkaud rum was created in 1895.
Three generations later, in 1965, the distillery closed, unable at the time to cope with the increasing cost of local labor.
Stéphane Madkaud, 4 generations after Félicien, took over the business in 2006, renaming the brand “Héritiers Madkaud” with the aim of perpetuating the family tradition by producing Rhum Agricole AOC Martinique.
