It was in 1947 that the Velier company was founded by the Chaix family. From 1953 to 1983, this small traditional company located in the port of Genoa specialized in the import and distribution of Wines, Champagnes and Spirits.
In 1983, then aged 25, Luca Gargano acquired shares in Velier. Under his leadership, the company specializes in the importation of exceptional spirits in order to supply the most prestigious Italian establishments. At the beginning of the 90s, Luca Gargano heard about a mythical, almost legendary stock of Saint James rum which was said to have been distilled at the end of the 19th century.
A meeting allowed him to obtain proof of the existence of this stock which was distilled in 1885 and bottled in 1952. In 1991, Luca Gargano obtained, after long discussions, the entirety of this stock which he marketed on the Italian market. Since then, its selections of rums have multiplied to give birth to exceptional ranges.
