About CARONI
Founded in 1918 on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, the Caroni distillery was owned by the Trinidadian government. Until its closure in 2003, it produced a wide range of types of rums (light, medium, heavy) mainly for traders, brands and independent bottlers. Caroni rum was also included in the composition of the "Daily Tot", the daily ration of rum given to sailors of the British Royal Navy.
It would take the definitive closure of the distillery and the intervention of the boss of the independent bottling house Velier for this rum, unknown to the general public, to become synonymous with exceptional.
Today, each bottling of Caroni rum almost systematically achieves collector's status, and the most popular vintages fetch high prices at auctions.
Caroni rums often offer very characteristic empyreumatic notes which are very appreciated by certain tasters.
