It was in 2002 that Richard and Bernard d'Offay founded the Trois Frères distillery in Plaine Saint André on Mahé Island in the Seychelles. There they produce Takamaka rum, the name of which is taken from one of the 23 districts of the island.

The Seychelles archipelago stands out from the majority of other rum-producing islands in the Indian Ocean by the nature of its soil. Indeed, the Seychelles are based on a granite substrate, unlike Reunion Island or Mauritius which are volcanic islands.

Takamaka rums are made from molasses or sugar cane juice. Molasses can come from different sources in the Indian Ocean with the sole selection criteria: quality. Sugar cane is grown on site using organic farming methods, by small producers grouped into cooperatives.

The Trois Frères distillery has 3 stills to produce its rums: 2 traditional stills and 1 column still.
