Îles Canaries

The Canary Islands go way back together. In fact, from the 15th century the first sugar cane plants were imported from New Guinea. It was then from there that Christopher Colombus took with him some cane plants on his second voyage in 1493, at the head of 17 ships, he landed at Dominica, then dropped anchor in Marie-Galante, the Saints and Guadeloupe. Thus began rum production began in the Caribbean and in Brazil. Over the years this competition ended up in the collapse of rum production in the Canary Islands. It is only during the 19th century that new players were seen in the Canary Islands which revived the production of rum, with the Arucas (the largest of the archipelago, founded in 1884) and Aldéa (founded in 1936) distilleries. They produce rum both from molasses and pure cane juice.
