After being a major sugar cane producer, like its neighbors, the cultivation of this plant declined, the sugar mills closed successively after the civil war. It was only in the early 2000s that the cultivation of canes took off, and it was in 2014 that two Venezuelans took the initiative to create the country's first distillery.
